The National Stock Number (NSN) is a 13-character alphanumeric code used by the United States Department of Defense to identify and classify items of supply. It is used for inventory management, procurement, and logistics purposes. The NSN consists of three parts: the Federal Supply Class (FSC), the Country Code, and the Item Code. The Country Code and the Item Code combined form the National Item Identification Number (NIIN). The FSC and NIIN together make up the NSN. The NIIN alone uniquely identifies a specific item. The Country Code indicates the country of codification (or NCB - National Codification Bureau).
